Pre-natal vitamins, Finally

The hubs and I have 6 days until we plan on trying to concieve. I am now in a position to start taking pre-natal vitamins. My best friend brought me her extra samples of pre-natal vitamins and I am going to get started on them. Today, I am trying  Gesticare DHA. Right off the bat, I don't like the fact that it is two separate pills that you have to take everyday, but that's why I am trying it first. I think it is least likely for me to like, we'll see.

Each tablet contains:

IngredientDose
Vitamin B1 (Thiamin Mononitrate)3 mg
Vitamin B2 (Riboflavin Universal)3 mg
Vitamin B6 (Pyridoxine HCl)50 mg
Vitamin B12 (Cyanocobalamin)8 µg
Vitamin C (Ascorbic acid)120 mg
Niacin (Niacinamide)20 mg
Folic acid1 mg
Iron (Ferrous Fumarate)27 mg
Calcium (Calcium Carbonate)200 mg
Vitamin D (Vitamin D3)410 IU
Vitamin E (Vitamin E Acetate)30 IU
Iodine (Potassium Iodide)150 µg
Zinc (Zinc Oxide)15 mg
Choline (Choline Bitartrate)55 mg

Each DHA gelatin capsule contains:
Docosahexaenoic Acid (DHA)                          250 mg
Eicosapentaenoic Acid (EPA)    Not more than 0.625 mg

As I try out new vitamins, I am going to try to pay attention to any side effects and what nutrients are included.

Fingers crossed that they don't upset my stomach too much. I don't have a sensitive stomach, but I have been warned that these meds/vitamins can cause some tummy upset and/or constipation.

  1. I had no idea you guys are going to start TTC! :-) I hope it is much easier for you guys than it's been for us! If you go to Southside United Health and Wellness Center in W-S, they'll give you free prenatal vitamins! I've been taking the Up and Up brand from Target for the last three months or so and they rock! Once a day. One pill. No constipation. No nothing. The ones they gave me at Southside are different, though. I'm not sure which brand, but they're provided by March of Dimes. :-) You get a 100 day supply and when you run out, you just take the bottle back to them and they refill it. :-) Plus, Southside is incredibly inexpensive. I don't have insurance and my OBGYN visit only cost $45, including the cost of the Pap Smear. With insurance, it's likely to be 100% free. The doctors are awesome! The nurses are super nice. :-) Just thought I'd mention it.
