DIY - Earring Holder

For some reason, I got bit by the inspiration bug today and I created a homemade earring holder for both of my girls. I tried finding instructions online, but they all included materials that I would have to go out and buy. All of a sudden I got an idea of my own. Read below for step by step instructions...

Materials needed
an old picture frame
some old/new school folders or greeting card
hot glue
a large needle
ribbon and any other decorations that you want to use.

Step  1
Take the glass and picture out of a frame. Find a suitable folder that you would like to use (or greeting card, depending on the size of your frame.) It is better to use a lighter color paper or paper that isn't too busy so that it can show off your colorful ear rings.
(For my "experiment" I used some old dollar store frames that I had that really did not have a typical back and could be left open.)

Step 2
Use the glass or picture from the frame to trace the size and cut out the design and/or background that you want to use.

Step 3
Place the back ground that you have chosen in the picture frame and use hot glue to secure it. (I used a school folder and even used spray adhesive to secure it to another folder in order to make the paper thick enough to withstand use, especially since mine will be used by children.)

Step 4
Use a large needle or pin to poke holes in the folder to insert the backs of the earrings.
(I decided to only poke holes for the number of earrings that my girls have and I can add holes as needed.)

Step 5
Use hot glue to secure ribbon to the sides of the frame for hanging.
(I opted to use ribbon for handing my earring holders since they will be put up and taken down by children.)

Extra Decorations
If you would like to add a personal touch to your frame, consider using a border of some kind of fabric or lace. You can use a glue gun or other available glue to attach it. Wait for it to dry before you attach anything else you want, such as feathers, silk flowers, dried flowers, or a pretty hair clip. Once your decorations are attached, you can hang your earrings and hang the holder on the wall.

  2. That is such an excellent idea. I'm not very crafty but I'm definitely going to share this with my MIL. She would love it.
